As diverse as is the Episcopal Church, General Convention can be messy, factional, and petty, but sometimes profound and always inspirational.

It is a reminder that all Episcopalians are part of "One holy, catholic, and apostolic faith," and at its best it is a small vision of God at work in His world.

Women to Convene in Triennial

The women of the church will also gather in Columbus to conduct their 45th Triennial Meeting. Representatives from every diocese will be present for the meeting that runs concurrently with General Convention.

But the women's days are not filled with legislation; their gathering is for the purpose of fellowship, education, and worship.

Six women from the Diocese of West Texas are Triennial delegates; in addition, Susan Johnson from St. Alban's, Harlingen, will be attending as the Province VII representative to the national ECW board. Johnson is running for national ECW president; the election will take place at Triennial.

Patty Brooke will conduct one of the Triennial workshops, and Catherine Lillibridge is the speaker at the Province VII ECW breakfast.

The ECW Triennial will also recognize an "Honored Woman" from each diocese of the Episcopal Church. The Honored Woman from the Diocese of West Texas is Betsy Markland, a member of St. Stephen's, Wimberley.

ECW Triennial delegates from West Texas are:

  • Judy St. John

  • Charlotte Otto

  • Debbie Gardiner

  • Cynthia Caruso

  • Joy Herrera

  • Carolyn Whitmire
